Finding the right cloud deployment option to accommodate your specific workload requirement is not always the easiest task to manage. If your business resides within financial services or a similar regulatory or compliance driven market, application development and management can be even more complex.
Private cloud in financial services
When we first started looking at private cloud, we found over and over again that financial services institutions, whether banking or insurance, were overwhelmingly the most common enterprises that need a private cloud model. Whether driven by internal demands for high data sensitivity and the need for complete control over that data, or external regulatory pressure that dictates down to the server exactly where the data can reside, financial services companies require the highest level of security, protection and auditablility throughout their enterprise IT environments.
Numerous financial services enterprises share another commonality: they want to innovate in their own environments and require the ability to develop in open source tools such as Kubernetes, Cloud Foundry and DevOps toolchains.
Data has gravity, meaning that you can’t just take your tangled applications and instantly lift them to the cloud. Companies must be methodical and require a single platform that ensures apps are correctly placed on the cloud and, in many cases, in a private cloud, safe from the outside world, but with the elasticity and speed that cloud technology offers.
A banking private cloud use case out of the vault
A typical financial services company can have thousands of apps all tied together.
One global banking company was challenged with a cloud infrastructure that was not flexible enough to accommodate the development needs of the many countries and diverseness of situations. IBM Cloud Private enabled the company to not be locked into one application development, deployment or packaging model. Each country is now able to make its own choices but remains bound by its common governance board.
